UAD Plugins: How to Use Them, What to Buy, and Why You Need Them

The centerpiece of my home studio is a Universal Audio Apollo x8. The flexibility, sound quality and reliability make it a perfect interface for recording, production and mixing. To complement their impressive line of interfaces, which also include the Apollo Quad, Twin, Solo and newer Volt, Universal Audio have been making some of the finest analog emulation plugins for over a decade now. Beneath are the UA plugins that I use most often.

Voice of God by Little Labs is one of the lesser known secret weapons of many top mixers around the world. This deceptively simple unit helps shape the low-end content on any instrument or mix. People love it to beef up vocals, dial in the lows on drums, and add punch to the bottom of a mix. Among the best UAD plugins are hidden gems like this one!

Hello. I have been searching for a solution online for several years now and I have not made progress. Hoping you can help! I am trying to hide UAD plugins that I dont have in cubase. For some reason, cubase displays ALL UAD plugins including ones I dont have. Does anybody know a way to parse the list down to just the plug ins I own? Ive attached a pic to illustrate further. Thanks!2018-02-10_14-28-46.jpg470566 82.5 KB

Our UAD Vocal Sauce is our warmest and most powerful vocal chain preset that simplifies the power of an entire mixing template into a simple 8-knob user interface that is compatible with all DAWs. UAD Vocal Sauce is made of the best vocal plugins harvested from UAD catalog, but if you only use the stock plugins, you can use the included 2nd preset made of 100% stock UAD plugins only.

Ben Lindell demonstrates how he sets up his mix bus processing on a nearly finished mix. Using Universal Audio UAD plugins, Ben takes this dance-pop track from sounding good to great!

Ultimately it is really hard and somewhat problematic to say specifically that just because a CPU is more powerful that you will have lower latency. Total number of plugins/setup will ultimately determine total latency.

Universal Audio is arguably the most popular manufacturer of some top-of-the-line plugins and audio hardware. Their classical instrument-inspired physical modeling, while not so revolutionary, has become synonymous with quality within the audio industry. Their products have a reputation for being easy to use while still offering powerful sound processing capabilities on par with high-end signal processors.

UAD plugins are largely expensive because of the high-quality audio equipment and heavy investment in the development that goes into them. Real audio equipment (guitars, amps, compressors, instruments, etc.) can be costly alone, especially when hunting for quality above the price. But beating the high-end audio that UAD plugins are known for is even more expensive.

The price of audio interfaces, like the Apollo series, which is compatible with UAD plugins, can also vary widely depending on how many channels, preamps, inputs, and outputs are included. Because these are all necessary parts of high-end audio production, they cost a lot of money to produce.

Another reason UAD plugins are so expensive is the process of bringing older hardware into the digital world. When a company develops actual hardware, they design it to their specifications, making it their own unique product.

Each UAD plugin has its own set of parameters that can be tweaked to change its sound. Their user interfaces are simple, intuitive, and easy to understand, which is why using UAD plugins for mixing is so great. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford the cost of their licenses or their hardware implementation.

The only problem here is that these stock plugins may not give you the best possible sound quality compared to third-party options. At least when it comes to compressors, some experts always recommend using third-party options, as they offer a more transparent sound when compressing audio tracks compared to their built-in counterparts.

One UAD delay alternative that might just be the secret sauce to your tracks is the Soundtoys EchoBoy. It may not have a complicated interface like other premium delay plugins, but it has 30 different styles of echo effects modeled on vintage gear that are enough to get the ball rolling.

From now through to September 30th 2020, Universal Audio are offering free plug-ins when you purchase any Apollo audio interface. Their Apollo & Unison promotion includes up to 9 popular UAD plugins (worth up to 1590) - including the new Neve 1084 and Helios Type 69 Preamp & EQ Collection - FREE!

UAD has updated the software to version 10.2 and expanded its Spark subscription. In the latter, you can now find two brand-new plugins. First, it includes Polymax, a new analog-modeling Synthesizer plugin inspired by hardware synths from the golden age of polyphonic synthesizers.

Universal Audio UAD 10.2 is now available as a free update for your UA hardware (Apollo audio interfaces and UAD hardware). The new plugins are either available as perpetual licenses or in the UAD Spark subscription. Polymax is available for $199 USD, Hitsville Reverb Chambers for $349 USD, and C-Suite for $349 USD.

UAD Spark costs $19,99 USD per month or $149,99 USD per year, including a 14-day unlimited demo version. The plugins run as a 64-bit only VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (Intel + native Apple Silicon) and Windows.

Since the 1950s, UAD has been a major participant in the audio signal processing industry, producing everything from effects pedals and audio interfaces to virtual instruments and plugins. This has earned them a stellar reputation as a high-quality, dependable audio gear and software manufacturer.

It is well-known for its ability to faithfully recreate classic devices as modern software instruments and plugins. However, you may get your hands on Universal Audio plugins by purchasing an Apollo or other firm gear or a subscription to UAD Spark, which is Mac-only and not compatible with Windows. The company website states that the Windows version will be released in the fall of 2022.

EcosystemMany plugins had restricted functionality and fixed settings until recently and the user could not modify the settings. But when UAD switched from hardware to software, all of the same features needed to be at their disposal.

Those plugins are fantastic, and I truly value the effort that went into making them. As was previously said, the original manufacturer gave their stamp of approval before distribution, so if they deem it fit, it must be OK for us. Grammy-winning producers and engineers, on the other hand, would strongly disagree with these individuals. But our digital technology allows us to accomplish so much more. If you need something as near as possible, Universal Audio is it.

I normally just work on the Mini in my studio but was heading out of town for a week last November and decided to instal PT on the M1 Air so I could continue working while I was away. It works great. My Waves and UAD plugins work perfectly (brought a UAD satellite on my trip), and the Plugin Alliance everything bundle also worked perfectly, as did the Arturia V collection. Same with a number of other more boutique plugins. Am now considering one of the new Mac Studios for my.. well, studio. I no longer have any concerns about working on an M1 system. 2ff7e9595c
